Search Engines and Directories
It’s important to distinguish between search engines and directories.
Directories contain large lists of website addresses under one or more chosen categories and may be paid or free. The categories are often chosen by the website owner and may or may not have any relevance to the actual website content, although a good directory will check.
Search engines, on the other hand, list web pages, not websites, according to how relevant the search engine considers the page content is for a given topic or “keyword”. This process is called indexing and the search engines regularly revisit web pages to maintain their indexes up to date. Consequently, as they index pages not websites, a search engine may direct visitors to different pages of the same website depending on the keywords used in the search.
Search Engine Submission
Part of the deployment phase of our website design process is to tell the major search engines that your website is there. Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask each have different requirements for website submission, some more complex than others.

Search Engine Marketing
A well-structured Search Engine Marketing (SEM) campaign can be a quick way to get a newly launched website listed by the search engines. SEM is also called Pay-Per-Click (PPC) and involves ‘bidding’ for keywords; you pay only when someone clicks on your ad to visit your website. Google’s AdWords is probably the best known pay-per-click product.

Search Engine Optimization
Search engines grade websites based on the user experience. To achieve lasting results your website needs to be clean and easy to use, the code needs to be compliant and accessible, and most importantly your content needs to be well thought out and professionally written.
