Search Engine Submission and Optimization
All our websites are fully search
engine optimized as part of the development process, including submission
to all the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, etc)
and directories (DMOZ, etc).
Search Engine Submission (sometimes
called registration) and Search Engine Optimization are two very
different – but both very important – operations.
Without submission, it could
be a very long time indeed before a search engine “stumbles”
across your website and starts to list it.
Without optimization, your website
might be listed, but it will be so far down the list that for all
practical purposes it might as well not exist—no one will
find it.
Search Engine Submission (Registration)
At the same time your website
is launched, we submit it to all the major search engines and directories.
Unfortunately, this never results in an instant listing.
Each search engine works after
its own fashion, but in general it will send a “spider”
or “web bot” to investigate and classify websites submitted
to it. Some will do this quite quickly, others seem to take forever,
but we can spot when it happens as each visit is recorded in the
website logs.
A few search engines and quite
a few directories prefer to send a human to look websites over.
This necessarily is quite a bit slower.
Your website might get listed
after one visit. More usually it won’t start appearing in
search results until the site has been visited on several occasions.
Sometimes multiple submission
helps speed up the process but some search engines will actually
penalize a website for this and downgrade or even ban its listing.
Based on our experience, we submit
your website in whatever fashion works best for each search engine
and directory during the three-month management period included
with every Silkweaver website design package.
Search
Engine Optimization
Search Engine Submission is all
very well but not all that useful if your website consistently shows
up on page twenty or thirty (or worse) of the search results.
Do a quick Google search on almost
any anything and Google will return tens or hundreds of thousands,
millions or even tens of millions of “hits”. Narrow
the search to just your local area and the list is still huge.
Search engines use complex formulae
to work out the order in which websites will be displayed, depending
on the keywords entered into the “search” box. Ideally,
the most relevant to the user’s search will appear at or near
the top of the list.
There was a time when it was
comparatively easy to “fool” the search engines by hiding
dozens of keywords all over the web pages. In fact, there’s
a whole encyclopaedia of “dirty tricks” to try to falsely
raise a website's profile for a given search.
But search engines are run by
some clever people, too, and most of these tricks not only no longer
work but, if detected, can cause a website to be blacklisted.
Every search engine assesses
websites differently and changes its formulae quite regularly. A
previously high-rating website can zoom down the list overnight
without warning.
It’s a tricky balance to
get good results on multiple search engines—but not impossible.
And, for consistently good results, it’s an ongoing process.
We employ sophisticated software
tools to assess multiple strategies to lift your website up the
results list – including keyword effectiveness.
We optimize your website for the
major search engines at its launch, and monitor its position regularly
during the three-month management period included with every Silkweaver
website design package, to give your website as high a profile as
we can.
If you find the service useful,
we can continue to optimize your website after the three months
as part of an agreed management contract.
Pay-per-Click Campaigns
Sometimes referred to as Search Engine Marketing, pay-per-click campaigns are the Sponsored Ads seen on the right hand side of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and sometimes at the top above the organic results.
We can set up and manage a campaign for you for you to suit your budget and objcetives.
We don’t just tell the search engines
that you’re there
We optimize your website to achieve a higher ranking for you.
